Hello boys and girls! I am so happy that we were able to all get together yesterday on Zoom. It was fun to see all of the friends from U are U.
Today I am going to share some fun (and cheap)
ideas to keep the kids entertained during the summer days. Think of this as a fast Pinterest search that is "Mrs. O'Brien tested and approved" throughout the years with my own kids.
Pool Noodle Sprinkler
Poke holes into a pool noodle and throw it over a swing set or tree branch while attached to the hose. Have some fun running underneath or beside the water. I did this with my children when they were 2 & 4 years old and they loved it. We were able to use it for a few days before it was too soggy to reuse. :)
For snack time or breakfast have some fun with Rainbow Painted Toast.
Mix a little bit of milk and food coloring together.
Then paint onto white bread and toast or put in the oven to get crispy.
I did this with my children and they loved the fun addition to their breakfast and making something different. We love to make Cinnamon Sugar toast.
Environmental Print Puzzles
Preschoolers love to feel like "they can do it" so what better way than to read with Environmental Prints. Take some familiar boxes from your pantry and cut them up into a puzzle. Your child will be able to put the puzzle together and then "read" the name of the box they created. This can be used with younger siblings too; you just have to adjust the number of pieces you cut the puzzle into. This is a nice activity to put into ziplock bags and take them on the go to keep busy outside of the home as well.
Whiteboard on Fence
My kids love to draw and color so a couple years ago we sent them outside with a "whiteboard fence". I bought a large sheet of shower board from Lowe's for very cheap and screwed it onto our fence. The board held up nice throughout the summer and fall, even with the rain and other outdoor elements.
This is my daughter drawing on the board.
Here is a little more information about the steps to make a board.
Have a little fun at the "beach" with Calypso the Flamingo doing yoga.
Thank you for working so hard over the past couple months at home with your child. Good luck to our friends going to Kindergarten and I can't wait to see the other friends back at school in the fall. It will be so fun!!
Love,
Mrs. O'Brien
