Literacy Fun!

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness

Each morning that students meet for literacy, we work on building Phonological and Phonemic Awareness. Phonological awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate the spoken parts of words. Phonemic awareness is the ability to identify and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. We know that a student's skill in phonological and phonemic awareness is a good predictor of later reading success or difficulty.

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness is the program that we use, and they have been gracious enough to provide us with lesson plans that are approved to be shared with our families, as well as some sample videos for one week of lessons. Click the links below to do one lesson each day this week with your child. Once you have the hang of it, please check out the additional three weeks of Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lesson plans that have been uploaded to the "file share" section of our website (and linked below) for subsequent week(s).

Please check out some of our favorite songs to SING and SIGN! :)
